SPDTC Class Information
Puppy Classes
Puppy Headstart and Puppy Einstein are a great place to start building and strengthening your relationship with your puppy.

Obedience Classes
Obedience training is valuable for every dog and dog owner. It helps owners establish a respectful and rewarding relationship with their dog, and is the basis for addressing many common behavioral issues. For puppies and young dogs it provides critical socialization to other dogs and people. SPDTC offers obedience training, from puppy class to training for all levels of AKC competition levels including Novice, Open and Utility.

For pet owners, we help you to realize and achieve a close relationship with your dog through training. Obedience classes are held on Tuesday nights, with an additional Beginners class on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am. SPDTC also offers obedience run-throughs at every competitive level on Friday nights at 6:00 pm. (Please check the club calendar for the run-thru schedule.)

Our obedience instructors are highly qualified to teach. Most have over twenty years of experience in training and competing with their own dogs and several are obedience judges.

SPDTC’s program includes three levels for the pet owner who does not necessarily want to show in competition, but still desire to be "that team", admired for their working partnership and control. The three levels are Beginners, Intermediate and Beginning Novice. From our experience we have found most people have better success by moving through all three levels.

To encourage students to move up through all three levels, we have made the first two levels, Beginners and Intermediate, into ten week blocks. Each has an evaluation at the end of the block so the handler and evaluator can identify areas that need more attention. While moving ahead to the next level each instructor brings fresh new ideas in dealing with problem areas as well as adding new fun activities and challenges. In Novice, it’s time to perfect what you have learned and add even more. Figure 8’s, pivots, working on off leash heeling and recalls within a controlled environment. The goal in this class is to make your dog more reliable in everyday situations.

As an incentive to continue in classes and achieve the best possible results, a $10 off coupon for the next set of classes is presented to the handlers as they complete each level. By moving up through the whole sequence of classes, you'll find you will have fun with obedience while your bond with your dog is growing stronger

If you have additional questions, please check out our Obedience FAQs. And if you still have questions, feel free to email obedience@spdtc.com with your question.

Agility Classes
St. Paul Dog offers agility classes for all levels.

SPDTC Steward Class
April 17 at 8:00PM, taught by Dick & Sharon Wood

We're holding our spring training session to familiarize volunteers with the requirements needed to help steward obedience. Students practice in the mat area, helping until they feel comfortable enough to steward, which normally takes about a half hour. Your name will then be placed on our call list. Anyone who stewards will receive a free advanced class of their choice for each show they volunteer for, plus a free meal. If interested, contact obedience@spdtc.com for information about joining our training session.

New Wednesday Morning
Open & Utility Classes & Run-Thru’s

SPDTC is adding Open and Utility obedience classes to the Wednesday morning schedule beginning March 28th.
Open exercises will begin at 10:00, with combined advanced heeling at 10:45, followed by Utility at 11:15.
These classes will be taught by Pat Nevins. Cost for each class is $10.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members.
Following the advanced classes will be run-thru’s at 12:00. Cost is $7 for first and $5 for additional runs with the same dog, or $6 and $4 for club members. If there are no classes scheduled that day there will be no run-thru’s either. Check the calendar for any class cancellations, and email with questions.
